Beaverton is probably the city that started the urban sprawl. In the early 70's companies like Tektronix, Intel and Nike planted those trees that would become the "Silicon Forest". Today, the population is reaching 90,000 and has the traffic jams to prove it.
Click to Enlarge Beaverton was the first real suburb where people could live and work in the same community. Shopping and errands could be handled during the lunch hour leaving more free time for the family.
Light rail connects Beaverton commuters into downtown Portland and offers a great way to go shopping in the City for an afternoon.
Beaverton is known for its highly performing school district and innovative programs with magnet schools, such as the Science and Technology and Arts and Communication schools. Beaverton also has language immersion schools.

Tigard is a city of 46,000, as its population has increased 1½ times since 1980 and includes an
area of 11 square miles. This tremendous growth has coincided with the rapid development of Washington County as a high technology center and more importantly, an attractive place to live. As Tigard continues to grow, the school district is growing to keep up with the population.
Tigard is located just south of Beaverton and spans both sides of Hwy. 217 and is within 2 miles of Hwy 26 and I-5, offering multiple routes into downtown Portland just 8 miles away. Tigard is also home to Washington Square Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in the area.
Click to Enlarge Tigard offers housing in planned neighborhoods and newly developed subdivisions ranging in price from $250,000 for a 3 bedroom 1 bath townhouse; new construction 4 bedroom 2 bath homes beginning at $450,000, up to large 4-5 bedroom newer home starting at $550,000. As with all cities in the metro area; Tigard is also seeing many developments planned for "high density" as part of State Land Use Planning. Lot sizes are as low as 4,000-5.000 sq. ft. but the sq. ft of the homes continues to go up.
Tigard has two senior communities for those of you 55 years of age. King City and Summerfield offers a wonderful selection of small to mid-size homes, condos, and apartments with golf course and country club amenities. This is a great place to retire.

Sherwood, is a new city with an old history. Old town was originally built in the late 1800's next to the train tracks. Today the city is one of the fastest growing in Oregon with a current population of 16,000 and growing. It seems that everywhere I look there is a new development. The original downtown core has been revitalized and preserved
Click to Enlargeand the new planned developments include parks and winding streets with affordable housing. Sherwood definitely has a community feeling and quality of life is abundant and thriving.
The schools are excellent with a high degree of parental involvement.
The current draw back to Sherwood is the bottle neck commute to I-5. However, Sherwood is a self contained community with stores, shops, restaurants, large retailers and lots of entertainment for children.

This area has a real sense of community. Every time I'm in West Linn, whether it's morning, noon or night, I see people jogging and riding bikes. Marylhurst College is also located in West Linn along the river.
Although West Linn prices match Lake Oswego, lot sizes have a tendency to be larger and the homes newer. When I think of West Linn I think of well maintained homes and neighborhoods.
